Day 8 Lent Devotion John 15:7 “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.” Have you asked for things in prayer and not received them? Have you been told your faith is too weak and that is why? We do not know God’s thoughts or His ways and taking that Scripture to mean we can literally ask for anything and receive it is not what God meant. Jesus’ pattern shown to us, was that He spent hours and hours in prayer. Often the prayer was emotional for there were tears and loud cries. “Yet He frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray.” Luke 5:16 “Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and slipped out to a solitary place to pray.” Mark 1:35 “After bidding them farewell, He went up on the mountain to pray.” Mark 6:46 “In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.” Hebrews 5:7 “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Luke 6:12 On the days leading to Jesus’ death on the cross, He prayed, “He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:40-46 Jesus did not have that cup taken from Him. He was God. There is no question about His faith. He showed us by His example that even He, God incarnate in man, had to pray. He, Who commanded the waves to be still . He, Who raised Lazarus from the dead, had to pray. He still humbled Himself on His face and cried out to His Father in heaven. How much more do we, who are not God, need to pray? Do not judge whether your prayers are heard. They are. “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24 “Therefore, I want men to pray everywhere by lifting up hands that are holy, without anger or argument.” 1 Timothy 2:8 Listen: In Jesus Name Tweet
