Day 13 Lent Devotion

“Behold, I am coming like a thief.

Blessed is the one who remains awake and clothed,

so that he will not go naked and let his shame be exposed.”

Revelation 16:15

“But understand this:

If the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming,

he would not have let his house be broken into.”

Luke 12:39

“he would not have let his house be broken into”

refers to not keeping watch on our lives.

Are we carelessly wasting time glorifying godless things

that we are not to have anything to do with?

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,

but let God transform you

into a new person by changing the way you think.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you,

which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Romans 12:2

How do you spend your “leisure” time?

We have television, computers, phones, games and music

that we look to for escape and relaxation.

Their focus however, is often

violence, murder, deceit, adultery, idolatry, sex, witchcraft, theft, and jealousy.

“What agreement can exist between the temple of God

and idols?

For we are the temple of the living God.

As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them,

and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”

“Therefore come out from among them and be separate,

says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”

2 Corinthians 6:16-17

This is a hard word to hear because it is hard to live.

When I was young, there were 3 channels on television

and it closed every night.

The power to influence for good or evil

has exponentially increased in the last 50 years.

I am convicted.

I watch shows that have words I don’t want to hear

and justify it because I won’t use them.

I fast forward through scenes,

but should I even be watching it?

“Therefore, beloved, since we have these promises,

let us cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body

and spirit,

perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

2 Corinthians 7:1

Lord, forgive me for these betrayals,

I am so sorry.

Help me not only awake,

but identify and shut down

that which defiles me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
