Day 22 Lent Devotion

 

“And many of those who practiced magic

brought their books together and began burning them

in the sight of everyone;

and they counted up the price of them

and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.”

Act 19:19

Have you ever burned a book, game, movie, cds?

“Now there was a man named Simon,

who formerly was practicing magic in the city

and astonishing the people of Samaria,

claiming to be someone great; and they all,

from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him,

saying, “This man is what is called the Great Power of God.”

And they were giving him attention

because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts.”

Acts 8:9-11

There really is nothing new under the sun.

“What has been will be again,

and what has been done will be done again;

there is nothing new under the sun.”

Ecclesiastes 1:9

To each new generation,

repackaged witchcraft, sorcery and divination

glorified in movies, hollywood mediums, our fashion, games, and music.

It looks new.

It looks powerful

but it is false

and as old as the when Lucifer was thrown out of heaven.

“But these two things will come on you suddenly in one day:

Loss of children and widowhood.

They will come on you in full measure

In spite of your many sorceries,

In spite of the great power of your spells.

“You felt secure in your wickedness and said,

‘No one sees me,’ Your wisdom and your knowledge,

they have deluded you;

For you have said in your heart,

‘I am, and there is no one besides me.’

“But evil will come on you

Which you will not know how to charm away;

And disaster will fall on you For which you cannot atone;

And destruction about which you do not know

Will come on you suddenly. read more.

“Stand fast now in your spells

And in your many sorceries

With which you have labored from your youth;

Perhaps you will be able to profit,

Perhaps you may cause trembling.

“You are wearied with your many counsels;

Let now the astrologers,

Those who prophesy by the stars,

Those who predict by the new moons,

Stand up and save you from what will come upon you.”

Isaiah 47:9-18

Pray for discernment.

“Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked.
