Day 33 Lent Devotion

“Then the LORD said to Moses,

“See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri,

the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,

and I have filled him with the Spirit of God,

with wisdom, with understanding,

with knowledge and with all kinds of skills

— to make artistic designs

for work in gold, silver and bronze,

to cut and set stones,

to work in wood,

and to engage in all kinds of crafts.

Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamak,

of the tribe of Dan, to help him.

Also I have given ability

to all the skilled workers

to make everything I have commanded you:”

Exodus 31:1-6

What creative or artistic skills do you have?

Unless someone is selling their creations

and making a living at it,

people dismiss creativity as a mere hobby.

God is the original creator,

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1

Who also created us in His own image.

“So God created mankind in his own image,

in the image of God he created them;

male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:27

Today’s passage tells us

God gifted people with skills in the arts.

They were meant to be used for His kingdom,

His glory,

His purpose.

“He has filled them with skill

to do all kinds of work

as engravers,

designers,

embroiderers in

blue, purple and scarlet yarn

and fine linen,

and weavers

—all of them skilled workers and designers.”

Exodus 35:35

Examine your gifts and talents.

We all waste so much time

on electronics whether television, computers, etc.

that we have left little time for the creative arts.

Take a break.

A long break.

Pick up a needle and embroidery thread,

a paint brush and a canvas, wood, stone, jewelry

…try something new.

“Every good and perfect gift

is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,

who does not change like shifting shadows.”

James 1:17

Explore what gifts you may have

that you had no idea about.

“Each of you should use whatever gift

you have received to serve others,

as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

1 Peter 4:10

Pray and ask God

to show you what gifts you have

and how to use them for His glory.
