Day 35 Lent Devotion

“He was oppressed and afflicted,

yet He did not open His mouth.

He was led like a lamb to the slaughter,

and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,

so He did not open His mouth.”

Isaiah 53:7

Have you ever been falsely accused?

Could you imagine not defending yourself?

Matthew 26:63

“But Jesus remained silent.

Then the high priest said to Him,

“I charge You under oath by the living God:

Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.””

Jesus kept silent.

They demanding He tell them

who He was and they had it right.

Why was He silent?

Matthew 27:12

“And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders,

He gave no answer.”

Jesus knew this was what He had lived for.

To die.

This moment,

that He prayed to be taken from Him

but said not His will but the Father’s will be done.

Mark 14:61

“But Jesus remained silent

and made no reply.

Again the high priest questioned Him,

“Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?””

Mark 15:5

“But to Pilate’s amazement,

Jesus made no further reply.”

Luke 23:9

“Herod questioned Jesus at great length,

but He gave no answer.”

Matthew 27:42

“He saved others;

he cannot save himself.

He is the King of Israel;

let him come down now from the cross,

and we will believe in him.”

Mark 15:30

“Save yourself, and come down from the cross!”

Still He remained silent.

Matthew 27:40

“And saying, “You who would destroy the temple

and rebuild it in three days,

save yourself!

If you are the Son of God,

come down from the cross.””

He is our Humble King.

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ.

It is no longer I who live,

but Christ who lives in me.

And the life I now live in the flesh

I live by faith in the Son of God,

who loved me and gave himself for me.

Luke 9:23

“And he said to all,

“If anyone would come after me,

let him deny himself

and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Some do not speak out of fear.

You did not speak out of power.

Power in man corrupts.

Only You oh Lord could carry power in humility.

Help us to deny ourselves,

find our life in You and carry our cross

as You would have us do.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
