Are you new to blogging?
Almost a year into blogging, I still consider myself in many ways, new to blogging. I am reviewing some of my old posts to see if I can improve them. This one caught my eye for a couple of reasons and I thought it would be a good one to review, dissect and improve. Here are the first things that stood out to me.
Original Title: A Little Pooh Can Warm Your Heart
I thought this was a cute title that might get some interest but the truth is it will never be SEO amazing because no one is going to search those words…ever.
I read what was a fairly good post on beginning blogger’s true feelings about being in a sea of bloggers and not being known and having so much to learn that it was overwhelming. The title should have had something to do with blogging instead.
SEO: Didn’t even try it
This was before I discovered SEO and had utilized the focus keyword
Learning Everyday is Standard for All Bloggers, not just New Ones
I have learned there is much more to blogging than when I started a year ago and it is true that I still learn every day and have a long list for learning this coming year.
I went to analytics to see what it showed for page views and in the past one year….it was zero. Ouch! I looked at the comments and there were zero.
That tells me this post in its current condition is doing me absolutely no good. It won’t matter if I delete it. But I do think there is an encouraging message inside it, so today I repost it under a better title and use a little SEO to see if we can make it rank.
Let me know if you read it by commenting and if it was an encouragement or not.
Original Post ( I added the headings and other items in parentheses):
I am always considering what I will post for my next day…especially now since I am new and do not have posts written days ahead ready to go. I am working on them each and everyday often staying up in the night just to get them out.
SEO Likes When You Add Headings and Use Your Key Word
(the heading was added new to help with SEO and to make a point)
Today my only goal was to have tomorrow’s post done before dinner. My mind went in many directions. There is a party going on this weekend that I plan to write about. I have had some great recipes over the past two weeks that I am excited to share. There is always something in the house that we are working on and can report on. But today I was a little melancholy. Honestly every day into blogging only shows me how much I do not know.
My Facebook analytics
likes, comments o
and I thought, really? I’m interacting on Facebook pages throughout the day and no one is coming to my page?
Remember When McDonald’s Signs Read “over 2 Million Served?”
Then I stumbled upon a video through Facebook on using Facebook…this person had over 2 million people engaged. I was kind of dumbfounded. She was sweet and I loved her teaching but it didn’t change the fact that after 10 days I had no one read my posts. She was sharing things I couldn’t even find on my page to utilize. (this sentence was a little incoherent)
Always More to Learn!
Next I went to pinterest because I can usually find solace there. People are always repining my pins and following me. But somehow I ended up on another video of someone wanting to teach me about embedding on pinterest. So, there is more to learn there as well. Sigh.
Don’t even get me started on Instagram~I think I have one picture there at the moment. But I am signed up for a free webinar tomorrow to learn how to manage my blog with Instagram. (still not into Instagram 🙁 )
Then all of a sudden wandering around on the Internet sort of like being lost in a store, there was this:
It touched my heart so I searched a little deeper and found this:
me and this bear have a lot in common!
Little by little my melancholy over blogging lifted away. “I can make this work” she said, “all good things just take a little time.”
As I wrote this, the sun was literally breaking through the clouds and I had to shield my eyes.
I never had the chance to read Winnie the Pooh as a kid and obviously lost out on a lot of life’s treasured wisdom.
Think I’m gonna get me some pooh~ Debbie
Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Did Pooh’s words lift your heart too? If they did, please share on FB, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram. I would love to hear your thoughts.
End of Original Post.
There it is in all of its humbleness. I’ve learned far more than I could have imagined and I am working on some big projects for this coming year. I do not feel alone because bloggers network better than any other group I have ever been in and they are truly supportive.
My good news is that I know a whole lot more than I did then. I work on a daily basis with bloggers from all over the world and they are highly supportive and truly friends. I do have subscribers….LOTS OF THEM!
I still have a long way to go to meet my goals, but perseverance is probably the most important characteristic of success that I can imagine. I put a priority on my family time, so blogging, though I consider it my work, will always take the back seat to any time that family matters, like when dinners, weekends, etc are unfolding. Being present with those I love is a blessing I don’t want to ever take for granted.
I don’t have a 2 million person reach, probably won’t ever. Comparing is not a healthy thing. It actually can spin you off into being distracted from your purpose, your goals and the unique voice that you have. Be happy for others but don’t take it as a strike against you. Keep your focus. Do your best. Learn. Laugh a lot and enjoy the journey.
