If I were to poll my readers, most would say they use a shower instead of a bath on a daily basis.
In our rush to get on to the next thing or in a time crunch to get to work, a shower definitely can take less time.
In some countries a bath is considered dirty because with a shower everything washed off just goes down the drain instead of staying in the water that you are soaking in.
When I used to work outside of my home, I took a bath every morning. Partly because my husband would be getting ready at the same time and he was in the shower, but also because I allowed myself more time in the morning since I am what you would call “not a morning person.” I need a slow roll to get going and a bath was perfect for a slow rise.
I’ve worked from home for the past 15 years and slowly my tub use has decreased even though I don’t have to rush in the morning ever…and I have a jacuzzi jetted tub.
A couple of weeks back if you read my post Lake Home Tour at Chatham Hill, you would recall how I ended up in the urgent care with a gash on my leg from a drift log. I was not able to get that dressing wet and I didn’t want to just sink bathe, so I drew a bath.
Now doesn’t the sound of that just draw you in? I drew a bath. Without bubbles or jets, I slipped into the warm water and sunk down with my spa pillow behind my head.
I have a bath tray that holds a candle and stemware and a book and any other little soaps or items you may wish to have while in the tub. This one from Pottery Barn has some nice features.
I was concentrating on keeping my injured leg up and out of the tub and just getting through the necessities of daily hygiene when an idea for a post came to me, I continued to wash and then another idea came and it reminded me that the bath was always a place where I got lots of inspiration.
Later that week, because of the new habit of lingering in my bathroom a bit longer, I was getting inspired to renovate on a budget, Rose Gold Renovation. Since I needed to take perfectly staged “before” pictures for my blog, I styled my bath tray and the next thing you know I was again taking a bath in the tub.
Because of the staging, I had a Devotion Book in front of me.It was a perfect time to take the time to read and pray. I see it kind of like “sanctuary time.” I read a devotion, prayed and got some more inspiration.
Silly me, thinking that taking a bath would slow me down. It did and it didn’t! Slowing down can become more productive if you were looking for a way to spend time in prayer or a devotional or maybe you just need a quiet place to read. If you are like me and your best ideas come while you are soaking, even more productive! I mean it is sort of hard to get too distracted in the tub…you can’t answer the door, change the laundry, use the laptop, and unless you bring the phone in with you…it is like hanging a “Do Not Disturb” on your door.
As the week continued I continued to tweak this tub time. I had a bubble bath! I used the jets. I added a beverage, I lit a candle.
There are many documented medical benefits to taking a bath. You can add bath salts for sore muscles, add essential oils to moisturize your skin, add aroma therapy for relaxation or for opening sinuses. If you use this as a bedtime ritual like many people do with their children, it prepares you for sleep.
Step out and onto a fluffy rug. We have this one by the tub and the shower. This textured white absorbent rug has the best of function and style, from Pier 1 Imports.
Wrap yourself up in a luxurious robe so you don’t chill. This one from Cypress is one I found at a spa years ago and began using at my vacation rental homes for my guests.
Are you ready? Let me know if this convinced you to set up a spa retreat in your bathroom and not just admire it but delight in it! I’m enjoying them again daily and I try something a little different everyday…spa music, candles lit, fragrance in the tub.
Relax and Unwind!

Hmmm, I have a wonderful claw foot tub in my bathroom that I never use. Now you are making me rethink this strategy, I could use some inspiration time!

Thank you, Anne! Sometimes a reminder of what we have is all we need to explore some new possibilities and make a positive impact on our day. I’m with you on the tray…I love lots of them. I keep some on the sides of the tub as well as the one across it. Thank you for your comment and for visiting…I will see what I can find out about my subscribe button, sorry for the inconvenience.
