Thank you so much for joining me today. I am so excited to finally share some photos of our Dream Home we have been building for the last 2 years!
Yep, that’s me. My daughter and I were touring the house and she said “stop, I want to take your photo, you look so tiny.” She was right! She was standing on the landing of the upstairs and I was nearly down to the main floor but with such a high wall behind me, I look a bit small.
This home is known first as a “shingle-style” home if you were to search plans on the internet. With the exception of the lower third on the front and sides that are stone, it is all clad in shingles. Ours is actually an LP siding shingle so we won’t have to paint for 50 years or worry about replacing for 30. Considering our age, that was a no-brainer decision.
In actual architectural terms, this home is best known as a Dutch Colonial based on the roof lines. We started this journey nearly 10 years ago. We thought we were going to building about 7 years ago when I began this blog. It was the reason I began, so I could document and share. But it is a long and convoluted story of how we ended up here and at this time. Some day I will share it on my YouTube Channel, Your Home Your Happy Place for those who care to hear it.
A close up of our stone which is a field stone with a mix of buff and gray grout. I love the variegated color and sizes of the stone. It really gives me that cozy cottage feeling. Makes me think this an older home rather than newly constructed.
The LP Siding here in Pelican as a shaker shingle. This is also very cottage styled and we are so thrilled with it.
From our entry foyer into the combination dining room and music room. We love the trim work going into this home. I got inspiration pictures from Houzz and Pinterest and simply searching words. The board and batten and all trim will be white. Above the trim work I am wallpapering a very bright patterned print. The double doors lead out onto our wrap around porch for parties that just want to meander in the garden.
Here is a keystone which is used in all of the main entryways on the first floor. I had given our builder my inspiration photos and between him and his trim carpenter they created some gorgeous moments in our home. The trim details add another level to the customization and character. I hope this home lives a very long life beyond our earthly days.
Here we have the Butler’s Pantry. These are custom cabinets and will be painted out in a surprise color. Though, when the painter lifted the lid to show it to me, it did not look like the paint chip. So, it may change on the second coat.
A glimpse of the kitchen. It has a glorious view across much of our 7 acres and beyond. There are two islands, one a working island with prep sink and the second has a warming drawer and is raised for seating. Can’t wait to share the next phase.
Every new piece of the house going in is so exciting. We love these country doors.
The pool is being formed! This pool will have an infinity edge and THAT VIEW!
So this is where I leave you now. A sneak peak at what is to come. I welcome your comments, questions and thoughts.
