Steam Punk is such a fun and intriguing decorative style. Some people don’t get it. There are more variations on the take of it that it confuses many who wonder what it is.
Steam Punk Inspiration
I get my inspiration from the Hats! This one is from Etsy, but you can find them anywhere hats are sold. My favorite was found at a store in Eureka Springs. I wanted to buy it for my son because I knew he would love it. Maybe I still will.
As stated in one of my earlier posts this new year, I am getting my focus back to the reason I started this blog almost a year ago. One of those reasons is to share my decorating tips, ideas and mood boards. As a decorator, Realtor, and home stager, it is kind of obvious that I am passionate about homes and how we live in them and while blogging has become my full-time job, I still work with friends and family when asked. So here is a sampling for one of my 30 something family members.
My son has a gorgeous home. He has done a terrific job so far in making selections that lean to the look seen at Restoration Hardware, but as we all know that is a high-end Retailer and some pieces would be out of reach for a while. So while he dreams, he can still get a look that suits his taste with a lower price tag.
Most recently he would like to lean a little more towards Steam Punk which is quite interesting and kind of classic in some respects. Steam Punk often shows a lot of pipes, metals, clocks, gears and tufted leather pieces. So in keeping with the color palette that a Steam Punk room would lean towards which is warn and earthy, I have pulled together a collection of base pieces to ground the bedroom.
Adding the collector pieces found that scream Steam Punk will look great on the barn media unit, walls and night stand. Another great thing about selecting base pieces that are not super trendy is that if after 5 years, Steam Punk is no longer his favorite look, this collection can easily shift to a simple masculine transitional look without loosing these base pieces.
Another aspect unique to Steam Punk is the frequent use of Wall Murals. I have seen Giant Vintage Typewriters, Gears and Clocks. In the collection below, I offer some ideas that represent wood, brick and the ever popular vintage map murals.

thank you Maria!
Debbie- You are a wealth of information. I have never heard of steam punk. Until I saw your pieces, the idea did not appeal to me; however, the pieces you chose are amazing. I really love the side table- it looks similar to the new table my husband bought me for Christmas. Thanks for teaching me something new!!

It is definitely a style for the eccentric but it is more popular than one would suspect considering many have never heard of it. I find it so cool to work into design. Thanks for your kind words Melissa.
This is such a gorgeous masculine look. I had never heard of the steam punk term, but its certainly a gorgeous style Debbie.
thanks Leanna, I love all styles. The most difficult thing I ever dealt with working with clients is falling in love with what I was doing for them and doing a little bit of it at my house! I ended up with a little mixed up style “). I can’t wait till he can afford to get started. I want to try the wall mural in his dining room and get a great chandelier.
I have a daughter that would love this theme for her room thank you for sharing with I am Pinnable Debbie
You are welcome! Thanks Amber
