I see the writing on the wall …. literally. I am a visual person. I need to see it BIG. I want to touch it and mark on it. So keeping up with things in a phone is not my forte’. I had recently told my husband I needed a wall of dry-erase board in my office so I could manage my businesses. I have seen it before on television. But my home? So when I stumbled across this paint from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, I was elated!
Welcome to TaDa! Thursdays Link Party
Hosting this week:
We have all seen the chalkboard paint for probably at least 10 years. It is awesome. A great idea in a kids room or to put on something for decor. But frankly black chalk board paint is not a look I am going to go for in my home.
However, now these two paint companies…Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have taken writing on walls to a new decorative level that is sure to please many homeowners as well as business owners!
Sketch Pad by Sherwin-Williams
This is Sherwin-Williams trademarked product released in 2015. Not sure why I had not heard about it yet but from what I have read, people not only love it’s use, it is simple to apply.
They offer a kit for $49 that comes with two products that need to be mixed and applied. Only one coat needed. It goes on white so you can see where you have painted but dries in a clear gloss letting your base color shine through! The kit also comes with a roller and paint tray and it will cover up to 50 Square Feet.
Once on the wall, you need to wait 7 days for curing before you can start writing on the wall. That would be the hardest part for me~ However, it has been really tested because Sherwin-Williams states that it will not peel, yellow, or not wipe clean even after seven years of use!
If you are done with that color and want to paint over, you just need to scuff it up a bit with some sand paper and it will allow the new paint to adhere.
This is a water based product so it cleans up with soap and water and no fumes!
Benjamin Moore’s Chalkboard Paint 308
So this IS Chalkboard Paint but not Black any longer! You can select from any of the Benjamin Moore paint colors and it will be mixed in to become chalk board ready.
This paint applies smoothly, has zero VOCs, is washable and though it is quick drying they do not recommend using it for writing on the wall until 3 days after it dries.
The uses for this are endless as well. Use stencils and apply to glasses, pots, furniture, storage, inside cabinet doors for grocery lists or inventory!
Wiping the chalk off they recommend a damp cloth rather than an eraser. Otherwise use it as you would any chalkboard that is black only this one is your design color.

I am going to use the Sherwin-Williams Sketch Pad behind my desk in my office and show off my writing on the wall in an upcoming post.
I think it would be an awesome challenge to see what all of you can do with these amazing products.
Only your imagination is the limit on the uses for either of these two amazing products. But at the very least you can start Writing on the Wall!
If you enjoyed this post, please share! I look forward to your comments and links to any project that you have done using these.

Perfect timing for this post Debbie! I’m thinking of redoing my son’s playroom which has a painted chalkboard, but it’s a little high and he can’t reach it. Been wanting to put one lower somewere, but like you said, not that black or green, not even in the playroom, not on the walls. Loving these options and thinking I might give one a try! Thanks!
OooH I can’t wait to see it! I was thinking of doing a challenge with it. What do you think? Wouldn’t it be fun to see what everyone does?
A challenge would be fun, and I’d definitely love to see what everyone else does so I can try in another room!
I think I am going to post a challenge for the summer so everyone can have time to try some of these and share them Labor Day Week!
Glad to hear about this product, and I agree, seems like the possibilities are endless!
I am going to have to update the post. Today at Homedepot I mentioned the dry-erase paint by Sherwin-Williams and they showed me another brand they had as well! You can save a bit of money using it because it does not come as a kit and to make the kit you would end up spending about $30 instead of $49.
Test…. fingers crossed I won’t get kicked out again… #techtroubles Love ya…. Susie from The Chelsea Project
Looks like it worked! Thanks for giving it another try 🙂
I really like the idea of the sketchpad paint!! I think having a full wall to keep my lists on would be awesome!! Thanks so much for the great post and thanks so much for hosting our link party. We appreciate everything you do for us!
Me Too! I am seriously going to paint a wall in my office and try it out. Thank you for hosting link parties and all that you do on The Party Bloggers…without you and everyone else, it wouldn’t be anything at all.
Always wanted a chalkboard wall but I was concerned about the dust that the chalk leaves and when you wipes it off it always leaves that nasty white thing behind. I heard Coke works best to remove it.
Then maybe you would be more interested in the other option the dry-erase board paint!
