Regardless of how you read books, using Audible, Kindle Reader or the hand held page turner, this Book Club is for you!
My daughter and I often drive together from her home to mine which is a four hour drive. We tuck those babies into their car seats and select a book from Audible to begin.
Unfortunately, once we arrive I always have to purchase the book myself and listen on my phone with my air pods because I usually can’t stop and wait until our next journey.

The Woman In The Window by A. J. Finn
This book began in audible in the car and I had to purchase it to finish it on my own.
I absolutely loved it and I am one who can usually figure scenarios out a little bit before they unfold, but not this time. This was a psychological thriller that had me guessing and surprised throughout the entire book. Extraordinary!
It centers around the life of a woman who has been unable to leave her home because of her own fear and the story introduces characters she either sees from her window or those who come to visit.
The movement of the plot has you wanting to turn the next page. No filler, every word counts.
This first novel for the author is being made into a movie, so that kind of says it all!
If you read it I want to know what you think!
You can get it for free on audible with a free trial. Click on the book image to find out more.
As far as Audible goes, it is a monthly subscription through Amazon. You can share the account with your spouse, so that allows for 2 readers for one price. You can listen anywhere there is bluetooth. They have sales weekly where books are $2 – $5, which is when my daughter purchases most of the ones she has read. You can cancel anytime.
The most exciting thing I discovered about Audible was that I could plug my home sound system into my phone and play the book though the house as I cleaned!

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
This book reminded me of a typical beach read and to be honest, I read it while vacationing in St. Lucia this summer.
One of the leading characters was conniving, two-faced, plotting to get what she wanted while playing the sweet, helpful and innocent friend. It definitely had surprises.
I was disappointed towards the end when one of the characters seemed to be changed out of character and got dark. This was a bump in an otherwise great and light beach read.
Even though I was disappointed with what I found to be a stretch in character, I would still recommend the book. I enjoyed it much more than I was disturbed by a character flaw.

Something In The Water by Catherine Steadman
As I began reading this book, I was tempted to put it down and move on. I am not a fan of cussing and there were several times in the first pages that the characters were doing that.
I also was finding it hard to relate. It was about a couple that were getting married and it turned into a real thriller.
But I hung in there and then it took a turn and the cussing was either gone or the book got so good I didn’t notice.
Intriguing and exciting page after page. I would love to see this one made into a movie. I believe I read it in 24 hours. It was totally not predictable. It had me hooked and unable to stop reading from one thrilling page to the next.
Excellent!

The Best Day Ever by Kara Rouda
This book took me a little while to figure out.
I loved that the author had laid out a scenario that you are following and then things change in a direction you are not anticipating. It makes you want to go back and see the characters behavior when you didn’t suspect what was going on.
The title makes you think the book would be about a wedding or wedding day but it was not. Instead it was about a couple who had been married for some time and were likely taking each other for granted. It takes off from there.
I will always be honest and tell you if I don’t like something. This also had a character seem to just go too far acting out that makes you think it really wouldn’t be in his character.
But again, I loved it. Recommend it highly.
Dovie’s Book Club Review #5
I ran out of books to read on vacation and I thought what will I do? I couldn’t afford to stream audible because we were out of the country and who knows what that would cost.
Then I remembered.
I have KindleUnlimited!
Did you know you don’t need a Kindle Reader to get KindleUnlimited from Amazon?
You subscribe to KindleUnlimited as you do Audible. You can also share your account with your spouse.
You would be surprised how many books are simply FREE! I use it to preview cookbooks before I gift them at Christmas.
So I downloaded a book for free to read from my KindleUnlimited account and read it on my phone for the rest of vacation and on the airplane.
The Girl Inside by Karyn Masters
This was cast as a Chilling Psychological Thriller. Another amazing book. It dealt with a subject that isn’t often written about and that I find very intriguing.
I struggled to figure parts out and then when I thought I had it all figured out….I was wrong. That made me love it even more.
Can I say it again? I would go to the movies to see this book as a movie too!
Dovie’s Book Club Review #6
We spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s at our lake home with our adult married kids. During the day, we put puzzles together or read, walk, sit in the hot tub, etc and at night we come together for games.
I have stocked books and movies for our guests and decided to add some to the library. I was shocked to find that a paperback was $17 ( I think) so I just bought one while shopping at Walmart.
I didn’t look inside or read the back. The cover sold me and I had no idea what the book was about.
One Night Gone by Tara Laskowski
So what do you think? Would that cover make you put the book in your cart?
Another First Novel! I am astounded that these new writers are popping out such fresh reads.
As soon as I began reading it I knew I was in trouble. It was all that I wanted to do. I had it gone in three days just sneaking in a morning and afternoon read.
It is about a woman who goes to that fine little cottage on the beach for a rest after a difficult life situation. The story is one that goes back and forth from one time to another but it had a good rhythm to it.
I was along for the ride all the way and did not see the final ending or even the final chapters coming and that makes me really love a book.
Enjoy!

Last one.
This was from my Kindleunlimited and Alexa read it to me.
The Last Thing She Ever Did by Gregg Olson
This was a difficult book to listen to. It rang too close to home for me because it involved a little boy the same age as my grandson.
I kept listening despite being a little uncomfortable.
It centers around two families. I found myself confusing the men and the women throughout the book and I don’t usually have that problem so they must have been a little too similar in some way.
The story was good. I loved the ending. Each person had their own baggage and storyline that they were hiding from each other which is why I think I got confused at times about who was who.
Had I known what the book was about, I likely would not have listened to it. However, that is simply because I wouldn’t read about something that could have me thinking about my grandson in harms way. If not for that, I found it to be a good story.
