Day 5 Lent Devotion

“For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine

and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth];

but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing],

they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen]

to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold,” 2 Timothy 4:3

The time has come.

“For false messiahs and false prophets will appear

and perform signs and wonders

to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” Mark 13:22

“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use

have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14

“WHO BY CONSTANT USE”

“I am your servant;

give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.” Psalm 119:125

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,

who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

The deceivers and the deceived are abounding. In the church, in the culture, in our families.

While we are left to discern the truth and cry out for wisdom,

we are also to show love as Jesus did.

No one is won over by arguing

. “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments,

because you know they produce quarrels.

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome

but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.” 2 Timothy 2:23-24

Lord, we are desperate for discernment

so that we are not deceived by spirits and false teachings.

We are hungry for wisdom

to act in ways that bring peace and truth in love.

Help us to fill our hearts steadily with Your Word.

Guard our hears and minds in Jesus, Amen.
